Aomori Museum

An art museum integrated with the ruins

The building, with its white exterior walls and uneven architecture, towers over a vast expanse of land. The modern and delicate design reflects the inspiration of the neighboring “Sannai-Maruyama Ruins.

The ground is geometrically incised in a unique fusion of Jomon period and modernity. The entrance is lined with trees emitting blue light, symbolizing Aomori. The meticulous attention to detail and architectural beauty is mesmerizing to behold.

The World of Yoshitomo Nara and the Giant “Aomori Dog

The museum’s highlights include works by Yoshitomo Nara, a world-renowned painter from Aomori Prefecture, and the 8.5-meter-high giant “Aomori Dog. The pure white dog with a peaceful expression welcomes visitors in an octagonal space.

Areco Hall

The stage background painting of the ballet “Areco” by Marc Chagall is another highlight. The huge painting, approximately 9 meters by 15 meters, will strike you with its power alone.

The works are displayed in the large, four-story atrium of the Areco Hall, where visitors can view the background paintings for acts 1, 2, and 4 of the ballet “Areco” at once, featuring poetry by Pushkin, music by Rachmaninoff, and choreography by the great master Leonid Machin.

Cute cafes and stylish souvenirs

There is a cute café called “Four Cats” inside the museum. Visitors can enjoy the museum’s unique presentation, including a menu tailored to picture books.

Enjoy lunch and desserts made with ingredients from Aomori Prefecture in this brightly lit space. You can also find stylish souvenirs at the museum store. The museum has a separate entrance, so you can visit directly without entering the museum.
