Hakkoda, which rises to the south of Aomori City, consists of 10 mountains and is characterized by a series of six peaks called Minami-Hakkoda, including Kushigamine.

Hakkouda, which shows its charming seasonal expressions from June with its fresh green foliage, October with its autumn leaves, and from late November through mid-May during the ski season, attracts many tourists.

Magnificent Hakkoda mountain range

The Hakkoda mountain range consists of more than 10 peaks, centering on the 1,584-meter-high Oh-dake, and including Takata-dake, Idodake, Akakura-dake, Mae-dake, Tamodake, Kodake, Iwodake, Ishikura-dake, and Hinadake, forming the Hakkoda mountain range.

The beauty of snow formations, Hakkoda’s “Snow Monsters

In Hakkoda, ice and snow accumulate on the Abies sachalinensis trees, forming beautiful “snow monsters. This “snow monster,” as it is also called, is a unique landscape of Hakkouda.

The best time to see the ice is usually from January to February, during which time the ice can be seen from Aomori City. On clear days, visitors can enjoy the pure white, fantastic world of juhyo.

Visitors can also take the Hakkouda ropeway to glide among the juhyo and enjoy an aerial walk while admiring the ice.

For skiers and snowboarders, the beautiful backdrop of the snow monster is an exceptional attraction. Visitors can also enjoy walking along trekking trails on Mt. Hakkoda, enjoying the scenery surrounded by juhyo (樹氷).
