Lake Towadako

Located in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Lake Towada is the core of Towada tourism.
It is a double caldera lake with a surface elevation of 400 meters.

It is believed to have been formed by the eruption and sinking of the Towada Volcano.
It is 327 m deep at its deepest point, 44 km in circumference, and 61.02 km2 in area.

The geological strata created by crustal movement form cliffs surrounding the lakeshore.

In addition to lake tours, the views from the Kankodai and Ohanabeyama observatories are beautiful, and there are many attractions such as the statue of the maiden.

The lake is beautiful in each of the four seasons, but is said to be the most beautiful in Japan especially in the autumn foliage.

Along the lakeside, trees shade the lawn, and visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll while admiring the beautiful scenery. Towada Shrine is located on the Nakayama Peninsula, which juts out into the lake.

Events such as the Lake Festival (July) and Towadako Winter Story (February) are also held here.
